The Palace Gallery
Featured Artist/Exhibit: "MOWING", a series of figurative oil paintings by Montana artist Lily Kip.  "This body of work lives in the same heavy late summer world as Frost’s poem: “gift of idle hours,” “heat of the sun,” “pale orchises,” the repetition of “whisper” in various tenses. But the central conceit of labor and cultivation also capture the primary doctrine of my figurative paintings—relationships are work. Frost’s own offered summary of “Mowing” is as follows: “He takes up life simply with the small tasks.” My paintings do not depict highs or lows, but the small, ongoing chore of communication. The cropped compositions position the viewer as an uninformed participant, tasked with reading my figures’ mixed and illegible emotions. So it is in real life. We may assume to understand each other, but communication depends on the imperfect art of interpretation. To live in community is to take up life simply with endless small tasks—to listen, to pay attention, to share."

The exhibition opens February 6th with the First Friday Art Walk from 4-8pm for your convenience and will be on display Saturday's from Noon-4pm throughout the month of February 2026! We hope to catch you there!

The Palace Gallery is easily located at 210 W. 4th Ave. Suite X (upstairs) in downtown Ellensburg.

Pearl Street Books & Gifts
Featured Artist/Exhibit: Pearl Street Books & Gifts will be featuring the artwork of Jeannie Johnson. Jeannie is primarily self-taught although she has studied under many different instructors over the years and takes classes whenever there is opportunity for them. She enjoys working in many different mediums. Lately she has been using acrylics--a bit like oils which she loves but they dry faster. She also recently discovered encaustics, which has opened a new vista of creativity.

My passion for art springs from my desire to express myself in my work. I strive to impart such a passion through my teaching. I enjoy painting any subject, but I am especially drawn to rustic, rural scenes and vintage buildings. Such scenes tell us stories of history that is slipping away. In some small way, I can retain that history in my paintings.

Venue Information:

First Friday is a special evening set aside each month so everyone can visit your business and meet your featured artist. That is why it is important that the artist be present. The Arts Commission advertises that the Art Walk begins at 5:00 PM. You are welcome to provide light snacks.

Plan to have your featured artist’s work on display throughout the month. If there is artwork for sale, please mark accordingly.

The public likes to see variety and they look forward to coming back each month to your venue to see what’s new. With that in mind, we suggest changing your featured artist each month.

It is the responsibility of the venue to find a new artist each month. If you have difficulty in this area please refer to the Artist List on our web site. It is for this very purpose the list was established. The list includes the artist, e-mail contact, and brief description of their medium.

The publication of this list is not an endorsement by the Arts Commission of the artist but is solely provided as a courtesy to the venues as a resource. We hope this will be a valuable tool for you.

The Arts Commission occasionally prints a brochure with contact information and featured artist & medium. Your venue and featured artist will be published in the “First Friday Art Walk” section of the Daily Record.

Join us in supporting and promoting the outstanding talent and art that comes from this wonderful and diverse community of Ellensburg.
