What are "Complete Streets?"

"Complete Streets" - the City of Ellensburg's purposeful implementation of safe use and mobility for all users throughout our community. Complete Streets allow all people to safely access their destination by foot, bicycle, transit, or other preferred modes of transportation. The City of Ellensburg is committed to our Complete Streets Policy and the process of planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining streets that provide safety over speed for all users.

Complete Streets incorporate the following features:

  • Sidewalks
  • Bicycle lanes or wide, paved shoulders
  • Shared use paths
  • Transit turnouts
  • Safe and accessible transit stops
  • Frequent and safe pedestrian crossings, including median islands
  • Comfortable and accessible public transportation stops
  • Accessible pedestrian signals
  • Curb bulb-outs
  • Narrow lanes of travel
  • Roundabouts
